Minimally invasive surgery
This is a technique, often called "laparoscopic" or "endoscopic" surgery, of performing complex surgical procedures through small incisions. Laparoscopy permits an internal view of the body with a slender telescope.
The laparoscope is inserted through a small puncture, eliminating the need for a large abdominal incision. This means you experience less discomfort, less time in the hospital, a faster return to daily activities and decreased cost.
Legacy's Minimally Invasive Surgery program encompasses a wide range of services in conjunction with all surgical specialties. Programs include general surgery (with a focus on gastroesophogeal, liver, pancreas, colorectal, hernia and bariatric surgery), gynecology, urology, hepatobilary, spine, plastic, thoracoscopic, cardiovascular and pediatric.
Our specially designed surgical suites feature the latest technology, audiovisual capabilities and computerization. We're proud to be recognized as a leader in these innovative surgical techniques. Among our accomplishments:
- Internationally recognized program for laparoscopic gastroesophageal surgery
- Internationally recognized program for laparoscopic hepatobilary surgery
- Regional center for laparoscopic pediatric surgery
- The premier fellowship for advanced laparoscopic surgery
- A leading program in robotic surgery
Our MIS Program encompasses all our surgical specialties and is available at all Legacy Health hospitals, including Randall Children's Hospital at Legacy Emanuel.
