Special exhibit celebrates 150th anniversary of Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center
PORTLAND, Ore., February 4, 2025 - To honor an extraordinary milestone of service to Portland, Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center is featured in a special exhibit at the Oregon Historical Society. Care, Compassion, Innovation: 150 Years of Good Samaritan will be displayed at the museum, located at 1200 SW Park Ave., from February 14 – August 31, 2025. The opening of the exhibit coincides with the museum’s Community Free Days on February 15 and 16, when admission fees are waived for all visitors.
Since its founding in 1875, Legacy Good Samaritan has been a cornerstone of compassionate care, medical innovation, and community service in Portland. The exhibit chronicles the medical center’s history from building the original hospital in the brush and briars on what was once the outskirts of Portland, to its modern-day recognition among the nation’s most preeminent health care institutions.
From groundbreaking medical advancements to heartwarming patient stories, this exhibit will offer a unique look into the dedication and resilience of the staff and community that have made Legacy Good Samaritan a trusted healthcare provider.
Visitors will explore captivating displays featuring artifacts, photographs, and stories that highlight how the medical center has evolved over the past century and a half, all while staying true to its mission of providing exceptional care. Visitors also have a chance to contribute to the exhibit by sharing memories of their experiences at Legacy Good Samaritan.
Admission to the Oregon Historical Society is free for all Multnomah County residents and all children ages 17 and under every day. More information is available on the museum’s website. www.ohs.org

Blake could go to Legacy Salmon Creek because it expanded its lifesaving cardiac services 24/7 for a growing Southwest Washington. The hospital’s Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) program is fully operational, allowing more patients experiencing a heart attack to receive this treatment locally without crossing the river.
According to Clark County EMS Medical Director Marlow Macht, M.D, MPH, the Legacy Salmon Creek cardiac expansion gives the growing Southwest Washington Community an added option. “As the community grows, this is an additional resource that allows us to provide timely care to Clark County residents,” said Dr. Macht.
Dr. Macht says Clark County EMS uses the Pulsara system to notify hospitals that a patient is in route.
