BENEFITS & WELLNESS
Salary
The current salary (2024-2025) for first year residents is $71,648.
Vacation
Residents receive 20 days of paid vacation per year. Weekend days off are not counted as vacation days when they come at the end of a series of vacation days.
Wellness half days
Each resident gets 4 wellness half days each year to build into their schedule. This time is encouraged to be used for doctor's appointments, massages, or to relax.
Cultural day
Each resident is allowed one day off per year to celebrate a cultural event of their choosing, no questions asked.
Sick leave
Residents are entitled up to 14 paid calendar days of sick leave per year for acute illness or injury.
Educational leave
Residents are entitled up to five days of educational leave per year. Residents presenting papers or posters at a conference may apply for funding through the Resident/Intern Training Fund.
Insurance
Legacy Health System provides full health, vision, and dental insurance coverage for each resident and qualified dependents for a nominal monthly cost. No matter how many covered dependents, the resident pays only the premium for an individual employee. Life and disability insurance premiums are paid for the resident. The Legacy Flexible Spending Plan allows residents to save pre-tax dollars for reimbursement of eligible out-of-pocket healthcare and dependent care expenses.
Tend Health counseling & coaching
Through a partnership with Tend Health, residents have access to an array of services that increase clinician wellness and reduce burnout and distress. These services help facilitate a strong and thriving workforce. Using this resource is encouraged, free, and completely confidential.
Resident retreats
Residents enjoy quarterly retreats scheduled throughout the year with different focuses, including team building, communication, cultural competence, and wellness. We hold an annual retreat for all the interns to ensure a comfortable transition to becoming a senior resident. After the didactic portion, the residents do a fun activity like a ropes course, disc golf, or a hike. Every resident is excused from work duties to attend the fall and winter retreats.
Meals
Meal cards are provided for use at all on-site cafeterias/cafes.
Parking
Parking is free and plentiful at all Legacy hospitals.
Malpractice insurance
Legacy is self-insured for one million dollars per occurrence with a three-million-dollar aggregate. Residents are fully covered during their residency training. This coverage is provided for all approved rotations but does not provide coverage for independent moonlighting activities outside the scope of the training program.
Board preparation
Each resident receives a digital copy of ACP’s MKSAP (Medical Knowledge Self-Assessment Program) at the end of intern year. Third year residents have a dedicated weeklong board review course. In the Spring, subspecialists run board review during academic half day.
Support for families
We recognize the challenges of beginning and growing a family during residency. Space and time will be provided for pumping and our stellar OBGYN group is ready to help with any questions or needs before, during, and after pregnancy.
Family/parental/medical leave
Residents are allocated up to 12 weeks of leave per 12-month period for approved family, parental or medical leave. Twenty-eight calendar days of paid leave are allowed for approved family, parental or medical leave.
Information resources
Through the Legacy Library, residents have access to UpToDate and various apps, online journals, and textbooks. Librarians are available to assist with literature searches.
Stellar Financial health consultation
No cost financial guidance regarding spending discipline, repairing/improving credit health, loan repayment strategy, and work benefits and risk management.
