Shoulder Replacement

Shoulder replacement

The shoulder is a ball-and-socket joint, bringing together three bones: the upper arm bone (humerus), the shoulder blade (scapula) and the clavicle (collar bone). The shoulder has the greatest range of motion of any joint in your body.

When healthy, the surfaces of these bones are covered with cartilage, allowing the bones to move smoothly against each other. The word “arthritis” is often used to describe the loss of cartilage that forces the bones to rub together, causing pain and loss of function. During shoulder replacement, the surgeon replaces the damaged joint with a new, artificial joint.

Legacy features leading services for total shoulder replacement surgery. See the "total joint locations and providers" or go here to learn about our centers for joint replacement and find a doctor who is right for you.
