Gastric Balloon

Gastric balloon: a non-surgical weight-loss procedure

A 12-month program

Legacy Weight and Diabetes Institute's gastric balloon program involves placing a balloon in the stomach to control the amount of food you eat and a coaching program to help you lose weight and keep it off. The balloon stays in place for six months and is then removed, but the support for lifestyle change will continue for an additional six months. Our team of experts will help create a diet and exercise program – customized for you.

For more information about the balloon or to see if you qualify, please call our nurse navigator at 503-413-8105.

Procedure is simple

A soft balloon is placed in the stomach. Once in place, the balloon is filled with saline to help limit the amount of food you eat. The procedure is non-surgical and takes about 30 minutes and most people go home the same day. The balloon will stay in place for six months.

Just like its placement, the balloon is removed through a quick, non-surgical procedure. The next six months provides additional diet and exercise coaching to continue your weight-loss journey. When the yearlong program is over, you will have learned healthy lifestyle choices that can help you continue to manage your weight.

Is the gastric balloon right for you?

On average, most patients with the balloon lose three times the weight they do with diet and exercise alone.

If your Body Mass Index (BMI) is between 30 and 40, you may qualify for the weight loss balloon treatment.

Please note that the weight-loss balloon may not be covered by insurance.
