Cataracts

Restoring clear vision with cataract surgery

A cataract is the clouding of the eye’s natural lens, which results in hazy vision, blurry vision, glare, or, in advanced cases, blindness. Cataracts are the most common cause of vision problems and are usually caused by aging. As we grow older, natural changes to the lens cause the eye to become cloudy.

Other factors that can lead to cataracts: genetics, UV radiation, diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, smoking, alcohol use, long use of steroids, eye injury, inflammation or surgery.

Treatable through surgery

Cataracts are curable through a surgery in which the surgeon removes the cloudy natural lens (cataract), and replaces it with a clear, artificial lens. Legacy Devers Eye Institute offers experts in cataract surgery and the latest techniques.
