Partnership Guidelines

Before you start, here are a few things about how we work:

  • Team-based care: We believe in working together as a team to help manage your pain. Your pain team may include a physical therapist, behavioral health clinician, medical provider, and others. We've found that using a combination of tools is most effective in addressing persistent pain.

  • Your journey: We are here to help you learn how to work better with your pain. This might take some time, usually 1-2 years. When you’re ready, we will transition your care back to your primary care provider. But if you and your medical provider need more help, you can always come back.
  • Medication prescribing: We will not prescribe any medication during your first visit with the doctor, because we need to learn more about you first. If medication is recommended, it usually starts at your second medical visit. Until then, keep working with your regular medical provider for any medication you need.

  • Getting refills: Some pain medications may face supply shortages. To make sure you don’t run out, ask for refills at least one week in advance.

  • Appointments: Since parking can be a challenge, allow a little extra time. Please arrive 10 minutes early (for in-person appointments). This way, you won’t lose any time with your treater.

  • No shows: We understand that life happens, but missed appointments and late cancellations affect everyone in our community. Please let us know at least 24 hours before your appointment if you are unable to attend.
    • To ensure fair access, we have a limit on missed appointments before you are excused from our care:
New patients: 2 late-cancellations or missed appointments.
Established patients: 3 late cancellations or missed appointments within a year.

  • Behavior: Legacy has a zero-tolerance policy toward aggressive or violent behavior. We don't allow anyone to be mean or aggressive. Anyone who is mean or aggressive to our staff will no longer be able to receive care from our clinic.

  • Primary care provider: In order to give you the best possible care, we work closely with your regular doctor, or a primary care provider. If you need help to find one, please ask.

  • Fragrances: strong smells, like perfumes and smoke, can worsen symptoms for many patients. We ask you to wear clean, unscented clothing during your clinic visits.

Thank you for taking the time to read through these guidelines. We're excited to get started.
