Treatment for these diseases and conditions often involves thoracic surgery, which traditionally extends from the chest organs to the esophagus, trachea and chest wall. Simply put: Everything in the chest except the heart and major blood vessels. Our surgeons and staff collaborate with colleagues in gastroenterology, oncology and other specialties to make sure patients receive the most comprehensive, innovative and supportive care possible.
Robotic surgery
Our surgical team understands the delicacy of treating the area next to the heart. One option when surgically treating diseases in this area is robotic surgery.
Robotic surgery provides for smaller incisions, greater precision and better visualization for the surgeon. This approach often makes for better patient outcomes. Patients may also experience reduced pain, improved recovery time and fewer complications.
Robotic technology is a complementary tool; it does not replace the skills and expertise of our surgeons. During robotic surgery, a surgeon uses — and directly controls — robotic technology to assist in operations. The technology allows for a more natural and ergonomic motion for the surgeon.
